Arsenal might look back and regret not signing Dani Olmo. The 2022 World Cup in Qatar has gotten off to a great start for the Spain international.
The 24-year-old forward, who has been linked to Arsenal for 2020, scored the opening goal on Wednesday as his nation destroyed Costa Rica 7-0, giving Luis Enrique’s team an explosive start to the campaign.
The Red Bull Leipzig player also contributed to the scoring by assisting the evening’s seventh goal, earning him the highest rating of 8.7 on WhoScored yesterday night.
Olmo was on the Gunners’ shortlist of contenders to replace Mesut Ozil before his £17 million move to Germany in January 2020 [Goal] [The Mirror].
And at 24, it is obvious that he will continue to improve greatly in the years to come.
At the present, Mikel Arteta’s team leads the Premier League rankings, so Arsenal won’t be too disappointed because Martin Odegaard is looking like a great number 10 for him.
However, the North Londoners were obviously right to want Olmo in the first place, and it’ll be interesting to see how he does for the rest of the competition.
Spain will play again on Sunday in a challenging match against Germany, who fell to Japan yesterday, before concluding Group E on December 1 with a matchup against the Asian team.
