Why Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is Chelsea’s ideal signing as £22.8 million transfer from Barcelona nears

Romelu Lukaku left Chelsea for Inter Milan this transfer season, and Chelsea has been actively looking for a replacement striker ever since.

Since scoring has been a problem for Chelsea recently, including throughout the Lukaku period, it should come as little surprise that they are looking for a new forward.

Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka, Marc Cucurella, and most recently Cesare Casadei have all joined Thomas Tuchel’s team to date.

They are still looking for a defender, and Wesley Fofana has been strongly linked to a move to London.

While that matter is still pending, the Blues are still trying to sign Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is used to the city after having previously played for Arsenal. The Gabonese international has a track record of scoring goals for each club he has represented.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Aubameyang played under Tuchel in the beginning of his career, therefore it is presumed that their working relationship would not be a barrier to convincing him to join Stamford Bridge. Aubameyang’s January exit from Arsenal was caused by a falling-out with Mikel Arteta, but Tuchel and Aubameyang got along well at Borussia Dortmund.

After the success they had together when working in Germany, Tuchel said earlier this month that the forward will always be his player.

“It was a pleasure working with him, and I really loved it.

Some players stick with you because you and they collaborate closely; Auba is one of these players, he claimed.

The two of us were quite close. There was always an instant connection when we played him here with Arsenal. Auba is one of these players; in a manner, they always remain your players.

“No (discipline-related worries), as I had none of this experience. The situation at Arsenal has nothing to do with this, so I will likewise refrain from commenting out of respect. I don’t know what happened, so I have no business making a comment.

“There was never any trouble in Dortmund.”

Under Tuchel’s direction, Aubameyang scored 76 goals in two seasons at Dortmund, and the two developed a close relationship. He consistently puts up great stats in a variety of European competitions, but the most important thing is that he has Premier League experience, having scored 92 goals in 163 games.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would be the ideal addition, joining the Blues for a fair price with advanced negotiations ongoing over a 22.8 million fee. His versatility and ability to play off the left shoulder or as the leading striker suits Tuchel’s system perfectly, allowing an interchange between the likes of Sterling, Kai Havertz, and Mason Mount – a flexibility in attack that Tuchel has had for a number of years in the past.
Aubameyang, who is known for his speed and finishing, is equally effective off the ball as he is on it. The key to integrating into the Germans’ strategy would be his pressuring high up the pitch.

Aubameyang may not be able to duplicate the success Didier Drogba brought to the club, but he can get the Blues moving in the right path so they can start competing in England and big European competitions. Chelsea has historically had great success with African strikers.

The number nine is available at Chelsea, but the associated curse may influence Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang  to choose a different number if he joins. Whatever the case, Chelsea is in for some exciting days, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Aubameyang’s addition would catapult the team to new heights.
